Powers of Attorney - Greece

Description

Power of Attorney for Property Purchase in Greece (Plirexousio)

power of attorney in Greece is a legal document by which one person (the buyer) authorises another person (often a lawyer or trusted representative) to act on their behalf when purchasing a property.

It is commonly used when the buyer cannot be present in Greece to:

  • Sign the preliminary agreement, if applicable
  • Sign the final purchase deed (συμβόλαιο αγοραπωλησίας) before a Greek notary
  • Represent the buyer before the notary, land registry / cadastre, tax office, and utilities
  • Pay purchase taxes and fees and complete registration formalities

Key features

  • It is typically a special (limited) power of attorney, restricted to a specific property purchase
  • The document must clearly identify:
    • The buyer and authorised representative
    • The property (address and cadastral details)
    • The precise powers granted (signing deeds, paying taxes, registration)
  • It must be executed before a notary or Greek consular authority
  • If signed outside Greece, it generally requires:
    • An apostille (or legalisation)
    • An official Greek translation

Duration & control

  • It applies only to the transaction described
  • It can be revoked at any time before completion
  • It ends automatically once the purchase is completed or if the buyer dies
